Associate Professor PhD Hristo Spasov

 
Associate Professor PhD Hristo SpasovSpasov was born in 1962 in Plovdiv. He graduated Liliana Dimitrova High School, Plovdiv in 1980.
In the period 1982 – 1987 he was a student at the University of Food Technologies (UFT). In 1987 he acquired a Masters degree in Technology of Wine.
He worked as an engineer-technologist at Vinprom Chirpan from 1987 to 1989.
In 1989 Spasov was accepted as a full-time PhD student at UFT He graduated with a PhD in 1992 after writing a Doctor dissertation on Isolation and Utilization of Selected Cultures of Lactic-acid Bacteria in Production of Red Wine.  
Spasov became a full-time Assistant Professor at the Department of Wine And Beer (formerly Department of Technology of Wine and Hard Liqueur) in March, 1994. In 2006, Spasov became an Associate Professor in Microbiology of Wine and Beer.
Currently, he teaches the lecture and lab courses in Microbiology of Wine and Beer, Microbiology of Wine Producing, and Organoleptic Analysis.
Spasov also does research in the field of microbiological control of staple production, influence of contaminating microflora, selection of pure yeast for wine production, organoleptic analysis of wine, extracts, etc.  He is also involved in organization of public wine tasting and wine presentation events. Last but not least, Spasov teaches courses in microbiological analysis, sensor analysis of wine and hard liqueur, organization of public tasting and presentations of wine.
