Associate Professor PhD Jivka Popova

 
Associate Professor PhD Jivka PopovaJivka Popova was born in 1948 in Banya, Sofia. She acquired her High School Diploma in Razlog. In 1971, she graduated from the University of Food Technologies (UFT) where she majored in Technology of Antibiotics, Vitamins and Yeast. During the same year she started as a full-time Teaching Assistant in the Department of Microbiology. In 1975 she completed a Doctor dissertation and in 1976 became and an Assistant Professor at the Department of Beer and Non-alcoholic Beverages. Currently, Popova teaches courses in microbiology of beer and non-alcoholic beverages. In 1989, she became an Associate Professor. Later Popova completed specialization training in the Czech Republic. In 2000, she started teaching a lecture course in microbiology of wine and beer. Popova does research work in the field of yeast selection for fermentation technology, metabolism of beer yeast in the conditions of classic and accelerated fermentation, yeast immobilization, intensification of the fermentation and wine aging processes. She also has a number of research publications and is an author of a textbook in microbiology of beer.
