Technology of beer - how to produce beer

Equipment scheme for production of beerAs we are going to discuss the production of beer, we should first mention the main source materials used for beer brewing. These are water, malt, hops, and yeast. Each one of these source materials has its specifics which combined with the characteristics of the other materials during the technological process forms the character of the different types of beer. Indeed, some beers are quite different from others.
The brewing process is based mainly on the activity of the different enzymes formed during the malt production which consequently degrade a large part of the compounds found in malt. That is how the fermentable sugars which are a key part of brewing are formed. The enzyme activity is also present during the alcohol fermentation during which a clean batch of brew yeast is used, based on which the beer forms as an alcohol beverage. The technological process itself goes through a number of stages which we are going to outline in this article.

Malt handling, storage and purification

Malt milling

Mixing of the malt with water

Mashing

Wort filtration

Mash washing

Wort boiling

Hot sediments removal

Wort cooling and aeration

Wort curdling

Primary alcohol fermentation

Post-fermentation and maturation of beer

Beer filtration

Beer resting

Beer bottling

These technological stages are the basis of the beer brewing. Of course, we should clarify that each brewery has its own technology which may differ from common practices.
